Originally from Pompano Beach, Florida, Gail Robertson began her music
studies at the University of Central Florida with Roy Pickering. After graduating,
she was awarded a full-scholarship as graduate assistant to Harvey G.
Phillips at Indiana University and received her Master’s Degree in Euphonium and a
Performer’s Certificate. Ms. Robertson then began her Doctoral studies at
the University of Maryland and studied with Dr. Brian L. Bowman. Two months
later, she was relocated back to Orlando to become one of the founding members of
Walt Disney World’s “Tubafours.” She later became the leader and chief
arranger of the group and produced a CD called “Tubas Under the Boardwalk.”
She is currently Professor of Low Brass at Bethune-Cookman College, Adjunct Tuba and
Euphonium at University of Central Florida, former leader/arranger of Walt Disney's "The Tubafours.
Additionally, Gail is a judge for the Leonard Falcone Tuba and Euphonium Competition, I.T.E.C.
(International Tuba and Euphonium Conference) Competitions, and the Florida Bandmasters
Association (District and State). She also tours the U.S. and Japan with Keith Brion’s
“New Sousa Band” as soloist and sometimes as Stage Manager, is euphoniumist in
the Athena Brass Band, the Orlando “Horns and Pipes” Brass Ensemble, the Brass
Band of Central Florida, and has toured with the Brass Band of Battle Creek.
She has been a soloist and clinician at the U.S. Army Band Tuba and Euphonium
Conferences, several past I.T.E.C.’s and I.W.B.C’s (International Women’s
Brass Conferences). Miss Robertson is also a member of “Symphonia,” America’s
premier Tuba/Euphonium Ensemble, and was on the faculty this summer at a
workshop held at Interlochen.
Gail was most recently invited to serve on the judges committee for
I.W.B.C., voted to be the “Euphonium and Membership Coordinator” of I.T.E.A.,
voted to be on the Board of Directors of I.W.B.C., will be the featured euphonium
artist for the “Harvey Phillips Big Bras Bash” in Seattle, Washington this
July. Gail was also the soloist with the Buchholz High School Band at the
Atlanta C.B.D.N.A. Conference in February 2002. She has also recorded a CD’s with
the Central Florida Brass Band, the University of Florida Wind Symphony, and
Symphonia, recorded for Walt Disney World Company, and toured Europe with the
UCF Wind Ensemble last summer.
As a teacher at several colleges, she has hosted many guest artists
including; Steven Mead, Marty Erickson, John Mueller, Dave Zerkel, John Griffiths,
Jay Hunsberger, Earle Louder, Laura Lineberger, Kevin Stees, Dan Sipes, and
many others to come. In the Jazz Genre, Gail has played with Lionel Hampton,
Della Reese, and Marty Erickson. She has also performed with the West Coast
Symphony, Brevard Symphony, and other Florida Orchestras.
Several of Gail’s arrangements are published by the Tuba and Euphonium
Press. The University of Florida Gator Band performed an entire “Rock and
Roll” half-time show arranged by Gail this past season and will perform an entire
“Aerosmith” show this season. She is also the founder and coordinator of the
Orlando TUBAMANIA, the co-coordinator of the Orlando TUBACHRISTMAS, the
University of Florida TUBAFEST, and is a Willson/DEG Euphonium Artist.
