Divisions and Eligibility
There is only one division. The SymbiosisDuo Duet Competition is open to duos of either two euphoniums, two tubas, or one euphonium and one tuba. The competition is open to all interested players of any age except professional players working full time as a performer or college level teacher.

When and Where
The competition will take place during the IEI Festival 2011 at Emory University. The dates are June 19-25. Preliminary (if needed) and Final Rounds will take place on the Wednesday and Friday of the week.

Two selections that will be played in both Preliminary and Final rounds:

Judges
The judges for the competition will be chosen from the Faculty and Staff from the IEI Festival Guest Artists. All rounds are open to the public and the judges will not be able to see the competitors. Competitors will be assigned a performance order and will be introduced by number. Competitors are allowed to have lessons and perform in master classes for the IEI Festival Guest Artists as part of the IEI Festival.
FAQ
1) Will I have time to rehearse my Duo during the week of IEI? YES. The rounds of the SymbiosisDuo Duet Competition will take place on Wednesday and Thursday. So you will have time to practice with your duo partner during the week.
2) Can I enter a solo competition also? YES
3) Do I have to have a duo already or can I just team up with a friend that I will meet at IEI? NO. You can form a duo with a friend from your school, someone from around the globe that is attending IEI or someone you met last year at IEI. That is part of the excitement!! 4) Will I be able to play the competition pieces in my lessons at IEI? YES
5) Will I be able to have lessons with the judges during the week? YES. Our goal is education and the judges will be able to see the competitors.
6) Should I prepare more pieces for IEI besides the competition repertoire? ABSOLUTELY!! Prepare other pieces that you want to learn about and improve during the week.
